Blog assignment # 9

The store I chose is Hollister.

My previous perception of Hollister was that it was a story for mainly people with more money. The one thing I did know abot Hollister was that the clothes generally were very expensive. I though it was a story where you got pretty basic clothes but at an added price.

The ambiance was that there was very loud music being played. I enjoyed much of the songs that were playing, and enjoyed the fact that they let you choose the song. There were many pictures of beautiful looking people on the walls, mostly in black and white,s hoiwng off the clothers. It was not well lit, and there were many dark corner.

The sales staff were somewhat helpful with my experience, and seemed to have a good sense of what clothes would be good for me. They did not always go out to try and help, but if i asked for it, they gave it to me easily.

The products and goods were what I have become used to seeing others wear. Many t-shirts, long sleeves, jeans, shorts, and other basic clothing items.

My perception was pretty much what it was coming in. The products were exactly what I had already seen on others. I was not expecting the music, though, which was very appealing to me, and I would definitely go in there again, even if to just listen to the music

Pursuaders

This film is about the fact that products not only provide a service to people, but it also connects them with others that like and use that product. Using a product can now be a status symbol. These days, ads don't just talk about what the product does, but instead what it means. Buying Pepsi doesn't just mean that you buy a drink thats tastes good, but you buy one that is cool and buy drinking it you are cool yourself.

Common strategies and ideas used in ads are to show your product in a new and different light than others You want to stress certain concepts behind your product, and make sure that the consumer knows he cant get that same concept with a competitors product.

I think that we are headed for more of this. I think that in ads, we are going to see less words and more images and sounds. Companies are going to worry less about what in the product, but talk about what it means, and showing pictures and music of the concepts that they want to focus on.

The techniques of persuasion are going to go very far. In the end, whatever companies need to do to get people to buy their products, they will do. They dont have any regard for if they are intruding upon peoples privacy, they will just do what they have to do to get money

The reason for this is that the people that are going to go to this website are probably those that enjoy the brand, just as I do It is also a lot of young people who generally like the product that are going to use the internet, so they will have the same eelings as me

This is my favorite ad for a few reasons.  First off, I really like the song in the background.  Secondly, I just find the ad to be very silly and actually quite smart.  These are people performing activities that you would not see them doing if you looked at what clothes they are wearing.  People in nice suits and dress paints do not dance or play basketball a lot.  All the scenes of the people dancing and dunking caught my attention the most.  I do not usually buy high end pants, but if I did, I probably would go for Dockers because of name recognition, and they seem like they would give me a large range of motion.  This ad is effective.  It makes you laugh and then you remember not only the commercial, but the brand of clothing.  I saw this ad when it first came out 4 years ago, and still remember the brand when I looked for it on youtube.

Hello.  My name is Lou Uhler.

During this semester I hope to get a good idea of how advertising is run and how to make better ads.  Outside of this class I hope to become better at both reporting, which I do for River Region, as well as become a better announcer, which I do for my radio station WIDB
